3 of the boys asked for moterbikes.

Kaidan agreed to scooters, because he felt they would be safer.
Kaidan: "I don't want my boys on motorcycles. What if something bad happens? They won't be protected. What good would a helmet do?"

Kaidan sent Shepard to get them scooters.
Kaidan: "Fine, they can get the Safe-T scooters."

Shepard "misheard" and got them Ninjas or something, because he thought it would be better to looked cool, than to be safe & be laughed at.
Shepard: "Man, FUCK these scooters. These are boys. MY BOYS. My boys are getting something kicky-fast & dangerous."
Zaeed: "HELL Yeah!"
Anderson: "You make me proud, Old Man."
Garrus V.: "Now it's a party!"

Meanwhile, the other 3 boys are tricking out their cars for street racing.... totally unnoticed.
Jacob: "Can I paint stars on my car?"
Baby Joker: "You're going to be seeing stars if you don't help me with these drive cores!"
